Fodor's - January 18, 2011What to Do: As a gateway for routes south, it's no surprise that Miami is stocked with amazing Latino site-specific art projects like the massive and colorful Carybé Murals, while the mobile Andan Volando by Emilio Adan Martinez dangles from the ceiling of the North Terminal. But the Latino food refuses to be upstaged: guava pastelitos from Café La Carreta and café cortaditos and ham and cheese empanadas from Café Versailles are as good as anything you'll find below the equator. Insider Tip: At this writing, a massive renovation is scheduled to be complete in October 2011, but the brand new skytrain is already transporting passengers throughout Concourse D. Continue

MIA: One of 15 Most Noteworthy Airports
Passenger Terminal Today - January 12, 2011Miami International Airport was recently voted one of the top 15 most noteworthy airports in the 2011 Passenger Terminal World Annual Review. The airport copped the distinction for the range of retail offerings available in its North Terminal. The judges felt the terminal's nearly 20 stores stocked a range of brand merchandise that evoked "South Florida chic, " and offered items travelers could find in downtown Miami.
Airport officials said they wanted to ensure travelers connecting through the hub with a lot of downtime had access to a variety of shopping outlets without having to leave the facility. "The new stores have brought an exciting atmosphere and image to the terminal, and we want to reflect that new spirit," Greg Chin, communications director of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department said, responding to the award. Miami's Airport Flying High With Travelers
CBS Miami - January 24, 2011If you caught a flight out of or in to Miami International Airport last year, congratulations, you helped the airport set a new record. This number shattered the old record of 34.5 million passengers set back in 1997. Domestic travel jumped five percent over the previous year to 18.8 million passengers. International travel increased nearly 6 percent to 16.9 passengers.
One reason for the increase was American Airlines' expansion at its Latin American and Caribbean hub. Together with American Eagle, American Airlines added more than 30 new flights daily in 2010. Combined, the air carriers operate 310 flights per day at MIA and handle approximately 70 percent of the airport's total passenger traffic. MIA is number two airport in the nation for international passengers, second only to John F. Kennedy International in New York. Continue
