Architectural and engineering consultants providing services to the Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) develop their designs in accord with applicable codes and sound professional practice. However, MDAD has found through experience, as a result of value analysis, operational use and other considerations, that certain specifications or elements of design better serve the Department's needs when built in accord with more stringent criteria. Consequently, MDAD has promulgated the Design Guidelines Manual (DGM) to guide design professional consultants in their work for MDAD.
Two volumes of the DGM are available on this website. They are:
which provides guidance for building projects in the MIA Terminal Complex as well as Volume A, sitework projects at all MDAD airports, and
Volume 5, Airside Design Details Manual, which provides sample details for design professionals’ use in developing airside component details appropriate to each project.
You will need to use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the Design Guidelines Manual Volumes A and 5 in PDF format. If you do not have the Acrobat Reader plug-in installed in your browser, you can download it from the Adobe site. Volume 5 is also provided in DWG format, for downloading and editing in CAD drawings. Volo View or similar software may also be used to view Volume 5 in DWG format on computers without CAD software.
Design Guidelines Manual These Guidelines are available to all professional consultants engaged by the Department. Consultants are required to avail themselves of this information, and the ability to access it from this web site provides an excellent way to obtain the needed information with confidence that it is current.
