Cargo Clearance Center:
The Cargo Clearance Center (CCC) located on airport property was designed to centralize the Federal Agencies under one roof saving the cargo community valuable time and money by providing a one-stop clearance center for documentation. The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Service Port Office, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Fish and Wild Life Service (FWS) are all located in the CCC. Approximately 300 Federal inspectors work out of the facility.
Miami Plant Protection Quarantine Inspection Station:
Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ), a division of the Department of Agriculture, safeguards America's economically-valued plants and flowers. Officers inspect foreign plants which may contain pests or diseases not native to the United States. This is very important to our area since more cut flowers are cleared through MIA than through any other airport in the United States. Flowers represent one of our top import commodities.
Animal Plant Health Inspection Station:
At the Animal Plant Health Inspection Station (APHIS), Veterinary Services (VS) all livestock and exotic animals entering and departing the United States are inspected and cared for by a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) veterinarian. In order to protect the livestock industry in the United States, APHIS ensures that no diseased animals enter or depart the country. Miami International is one of only two airports in the nation with an on-airport animal quarantine center with loading ramps, saving importers and exporters, valuable time and money.
Fumigation Facility:
The fumigation facility allows for on-airport pest control for commodities needing immediate fumigation. This offers a saving to our importers. A fumigation company conducts the actual operation with permits issued by the Aviation Department. All fumigations are monitored by USDA/PPQ (Plant Protection and Quarantine). The facility was modified and upgraded to keep up with the high volumes of perishable trade.
Cargo Access Tunnel:
Built under diagonal runway 12-30, the cargo access tunnel is used to transport belly cargo to/from the east side terminal area to the west side cargo areas of the airport. The tunnel has cut the trip down from an average of 45 minutes to under 15 minutes.
Decompression Chamber:
The Decompression Chamber is one of four such facilities in the United States, providing security-screening procedures for air cargo shipments at Miami International Airport.
