Homestead General Airport
Miami-Dade Aviation Department purchased Homestead General Airport from a group of farmers in 1963.  Since the devastating “Hurricane Andrew” in 1992, more than $5 Million has been invested in improvements including a new airfield lighting and signage, the construction of two FBOs, storage hangars, refurbishing operations, maintenance and the skydiving buildings, a water distribution system and a boundary fence around the airport.

Homestead General Airport has typically served flight training and sport recreational aviation needs.  This trend is changing due to the increase of corporate charter activity as a result of the growth in south Miami-Dade County as well as Homestead Speedway’s daily and large-scale NASCAR, Indy Race League (IRL) and Grand Touring Over (GTO) racing events which have increased Airport activity by 25%.
