Miami-Dade County, FL – Miami Paradise, a painting by internationally renowned pop artist Romero Britto and the artistic inspiration for Miami International Airport’s new customer-friendly employee uniforms, is now on display at the airport.
The painting was commissioned in 2007 by the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County’s economic development agency. The Bureau and the Beacon Council donated the work to the Miami-Dade Aviation Department to be exhibited in the MIA terminal.
Consistent with MIA’s desire to “bring the destination to the airport,” Miami Paradise portrays the rhythmic and colorful atmosphere of South Florida’s tropical environment. The painting suggests a sense of arrival in Miami-Dade County, offering an abstracted composite of sun, fun and the natural world and reinforces the identity of MIA as the County’s entryway.
Miami Paradise will also serve as the motif for MIA’s future employee uniforms. The uniforms are currently being designed and manufactured by Cubavera, a division of Perry Ellis International that produces a relaxed, casual look, and will be worn by airport staff with the most public contact beginning in the summer of 2009. The Britto-inspired shirts will add to the vibrant atmosphere at MIA and will make airport staff more recognizable to airport users who need assistance.
Britto, a native of Brazil and resident of Miami-Dade County, strives to bring a feeling of hope and joy to his work and to celebrate the “simple things in life.” His work is represented in galleries, museums and collections worldwide and he is presently enjoying the distinction of being included in a show of Brazilian artists at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Britto is well-known for his commitment and contributions to charitable organizations locally and internationally and for his support of the role that art can play in society at large.
Miami Paradise is on permanent exhibit at MIA on the second level near the Terminal E information counter.
