(MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA) – Beginning August 15, investors and developers interested in previously unavailable real estate at Miami International Airport’s (MIA) main entrance, known as Central Boulevard, can propose how they would give the area a much-needed makeover.
The Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD), which operates MIA, is making four land parcels totaling approximately 36 acres available to qualified developers to finance, design, construct, renovate, manage and/or operate new facilities that will become marquee attractions for MIA users when they enter and exit the airport.
Area A is a 25-acre site that, according to preliminary feedback from the investment community, would be ideal for a conference center, hotel, retail and office complex. Area B is an eight-acre site designated for the development of a retail service plaza that could include a convenience store, gas station, dry cleaning and even a pet resort. Area C is a three-acre site directly adjacent to MIA’s parking garages that is designated for a new hotel development. And Area D is the existing 252-room, in-terminal MIA Hotel site that may also include three floors of adjoining office space currently occupied by MDAD.
In addition to heightened visibility at the entrance of one of the busiest airports in the world, winning bidders will also help beautify MIA’s new contemporary appearance.
“Ninety-six percent of the visitors to Miami - eight million people annually - arrive at MIA, and they all exit the airport on Central Boulevard,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director José Abreu. “New facilities located on Central Boulevard will provide the developer an opportunity to roll out the welcome mat for MIA and Miami-Dade County.”
An Expression of Interest for the Central Boulevard Project will be available at www.miami-airport.com/html/business_opportunities.html beginning Friday, August 15, and must be delivered by mail, fax or email no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2008.
