MIA Opens New, Expanded Military Hospitality Lounge

Text

(MIAMI, FL) -- Miami International Airport today opened a new, expanded military hospitality lounge just in time for U.S. armed service men and women traveling during the winter holiday season.

The new lounge, located in the airport’s former Club America facility at Concourse E, is almost double the size of the previous area at Concourse B on the third floor, and offers complimentary services 24 hours a day for guests with official military ID.

Services provided include: cots and a double bed for sleeping; computers with internet access; televisions with VCR and DVD players; books, magazines, videos and games for children and adults; phone, fax and photocopy service; snacks and beverages; and upholstered seating.

The lounge is operated by volunteers from Armed Forces Service Center (AFSC), Inc., a non-profit organization, and is supported by private contributions and in-kind donations. The Miami-Dade Aviation Department provides AFSC with space for the lounge at no charge.

“Our military personnel serve this County and this nation with honor and courage each and every day, and this lounge is one way of the County giving back to those who put their lives on the line,” said Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz, a U.S. Marine veteran who helped celebrate the lounge’s opening.

“We feel privileged to serve military personnel when they travel through MIA,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director José Abreu, “and we hope the new hospitality lounge helps to make them feel appreciated and supported as they serve our country, especially during the holidays.”
