MIA Debuts Bold Brand Name Stores

(Miami-Dade County, FL) – Miami International Airport at 2 p.m. today will debut stylish new stores that conjure up the flavor of “100% Pure Miami Shopping” -- the theme of the Airport’s dynamic new Central Terminal Retail Program.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez; members of the Board of County Commissioners; Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau President and CEO William D. Talbert III; Miami-Dade Aviation Department Director José Abreu; and Westfield Concession Management, Inc. Vice President, Airport Division, George Giaquinto will help unveil these 14 trendy new stores: Brookstone, Airport Wireless, Borders, Bayside Brush, The Havana Shirt Store, Hudson News (two locations), Mindworks, Mercado Miami, NewsLink (two locations), Prestige Signature, Ron Jon Surf Shop and the $10 Boutique. Five additional stores are scheduled to open this year.

“Miami International Airport continues to be the economic engine of Miami-Dade and these new shops will strengthen that engine,” said Mayor Alvarez. “We must remember our airport is the first place visitors see when they arrive and their last experience before they depart. These new shops will enhance the visitor experience.”

The Aviation Department has branded this vibrant concession program with the slogan, “100% Pure Miami Shopping.” The grand opening, which was planned to coincide with National Tourism Week, will feature a fashion show, food samples, book signings, children’s activities and prizes for Airport users and employees alike. Another fashion show, together with prizes, will also take place on Friday, May 19.

“It's a pleasure to kick-off National Tourism Week at Miami International Airport with the Grand Opening of the new MIA Shops," said Talbert.  "We're delighted that MIA has created a retail environment that is reflective of the exciting Miami shopping experience.  We know our visitors like to shop and the new Central Terminal Retail Program enhances their airport experience."

Said Commission Chairman Joe A. Martinez: “Miami International Airport’s future
is unfolding now with these new shops. The enhancements these shops bring to
the Airport’s Central Terminal are a precursor to what the Airport user will find as
MIA continues to modernize.”

Said Aviation Director Abreu: “The Central Terminal shops provide our Airport user with brand-name stores that are easier to recognize and that will carry the items a patron seeks.”
