Max Fajardo Named Deputy Aviation Director

Text

(Miami-Dade County, FL) – Eighteen-year Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) veteran Max Fajardo has been named Deputy Director of Operations and Maintenance for the department, making him responsible for supervising the airside, terminal and landside operations, security and maintenance of Miami International Airport (MIA) and MDAD’s four General Aviation airports. Fajardo replaces longtime Deputy and Assistant Director Bruce Drum, who retired in May.

In January, he was chosen by MDAD Director José Abreu to lead the management of MIA’s South Terminal Program and keep the project on track for completion.  South Terminal is on schedule for its first flight in August.

For the past 18 years, Fajardo has been a member of the MDAD management team in various positions including but not limited to maintenance, planning, programming, facilities initiation, strategic planning and coordination. Prior to his Deputy Director position and South Terminal assignment, he served as MDAD Assistant Director of Maintenance and leader of the Facilities Initiation Team (FIT), overseeing the facilities coordination, operations and acceptance aspects of MIA’s ongoing Capital Improvement Program.  His management responsibilities included facilities maintenance and engineering for all County-owned airports and oversight of more than 500 employees.

Prior to joining MDAD, Fajardo worked for 16 years in the airport consulting industry, performing more than 500 projects at MIA and other airports.

Fajardo is a licensed Engineering Intern (E.I.) in the State of Florida and has a Master of Science degree in Construction Management from Florida International University, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from St. Thomas University, and an Associate of Arts degree in Engineering/General Studies from Miami-Dade Community College.

“Max’s experience, education, management style and determination will be critical to the success of the daily operations at MIA and our system of airports,” said Abreu.
