(Miami-Dade County, Florida) – United Airlines will pull its current fleet from Miami International Airport (MIA) and replace it with its Ted service, an official low-cost carrier, beginning September 7, 2005.
United Airlines recently announced new flights to select sun destinations such as Florida, California, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
United is key to MIA’s operation as the third busiest carrier operating at the airport. The airline was responsible for nearly 1.2 million passengers in 2004. The Ted brand will usher in a new era of affordable brands at MIA.
“Ted is a wonderful addition to our list of low-cost carriers, and we expect a considerable response from passengers,” said Carlos F. Bonzon, Ph.D., P.E., Interim Aviation Director.
Flights from Denver and Washington Dulles to Miami will be available for passengers traveling through MIA twice a day. Air service to Chicago will begin with two daily flights beginning October 31, 2005.
The airline will convert nine Airbus 320 aircraft from United to the Ted configuration to provide this service.
