Michael Garcia, a 14-year veteran of the Aviation Department, was appointed Division Director of Terminal Maintenance in July 2008. His 29 years of experience in the aviation maintenance industry includes positions within the Aviation Department as an Electrical-Electronic-Equipment Technician, Passenger loading Bridge Supervisor, Deputy Chief/Fleet Manager of Utilities and Public Works, Acting Chief/Fleet Manager of Utilities and Public Works, and most recently, Chief of Aviation Terminal Building Maintenance.

As Division Director of Terminal Maintenance, Mr. Garcia is responsible for the day-to-day operations of facilities and terminal building maintenance at Miami International Airport (MIA). His responsibilities include preparation and administration of a $17-million annual operating budget and oversight of 126 employees. Among his many accomplishments, Garcia: developed and implemented the first formularized fleet management program for MIA, which has saved the Department $493,000 since its inception; drafted the business plan for the in-house disposal of international waste at MIA, which reduced Departmental costs by $208,000; and reorganized the Terminal Maintenance Section to provide 24-hour, seven-day enhanced customer service to MIA tenants.

Prior to joining MDAD, Mr. Garcia worked in the maintenance divisions for: Eastern Airlines at New York’s La Guardia Airport; American Eagle; and the Miami-Dade Transit Authority. Mr. Garcia holds a master’s degree in business administration, a bachelor’s degree in airport/aviation management, an associate degree in aviation maintenance management, an airframe/power-plant license and an FCC Avionics license with radar endorsement. He is an Accredited Airport Executive (AAE) with the Association of Accredited Airport Executives (AAAE) and has earned professional certificates in strategic management, public sector fleet management, project management, aviation airway management and integrated pest control management.
