(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade Aviation Department and LAN Colombia officials welcomed the inaugural flight by the airline from Bogota, Colombia to Miami International Airport on February 1, 2012. The inaugural arrival was welcomed with a water cannon salute by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a surprise appearance from coffee icon Juan Valdez®, who joined passengers on the first flight from MIA to Bogota to serve them his coffee in person.

LAN Colombia will operate four weekly non-stop flights between Bogota and MIA with modern Airbus A320 aircraft. The airline is the newest affiliate of the growing LAN family of passenger carriers serving MIA that also includes LAN Chile, LAN Ecuador, LAN Argentina and LAN Peru. MIA is the only U.S. airport with service by all five carriers within the LAN group.
