(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- The Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) has once again received the annual Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada (GFOA). MDAD's fiscal year 2011-2012 budget earned the department the award for the fifth consecutive year. The award is the highest form of recognition in government budgeting and reflects a commitment to the highest principles of budgeting, according to GFOA.
MDAD earned the award by meeting nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation designed to assess how well a budget serves as: a policy document; a financial plan; an operational guide; and a communications device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 17,400 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
