Surprised passengers in Miami International Airport’s Concourse D on September 26 were treated to the sounds of Miami resident and premiere trombone artist Chad Bernstein (http://chadbernstein.com/HOME.html) and his jazz quartet, who played five sets of Latin, funk and jazz music. Bernstein has played and recorded with a who’s who of celebrities including Shakira, Pitbull, Jennifer Hudson and Arturo Sandoval. He has also performed on numerous television shows such as the Tonight Show and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Bernstein’s visit was the latest in a schedule of performances at MIA that has featured Brazilian band Forró in the Dark and Afro-Cuban dance troupe IFE-ILE - all part of MIA’s monthly Musical Happenings program, which began in July.
“We take pride in bringing our passengers a variety of entertainment that’s reflective of our multi-cultural community,” said Yolanda Sánchez, Ph.D., Miami-Dade Aviation Department Fine Arts and Cultural Affairs Division Director. “Passengers thoroughly enjoy these impromptu performances, which add fun and light-heartedness to the travel experience.”
The Musical Happenings program is funded by a $40,000 grant from the Knight Foundation Arts Challenge and is being coordinated by the MDAD Fine Arts and Cultural Affairs Division. To learn more, go to http://www.miami-airport.com/art_and_exhibitions.asp.
