About Face! Reinventing the Portrait

Artists have produced individual portraits for centuries to represent and record the image or likeness of a person through painting, photograph, sculpture and various other artistic mediums. Kehinde Wiley’s official portrait of former President Barak Obama, Jonathan Yeo’s representations of celebrities, and Mickalene Thomas’s complex portraits are just some of the many artworks that inspired Miami-Dade County Public School students to create and interpret their portraits in new and exciting ways. About Face! Reinventing the Portrait includes over 100 portraits in various mediums capturing historical and contemporary figures, as well as individuals from students’ everyday life.
