Project Title: TMB Runway Incursion Mitigation

Project Timeline:

  • Completed Spring 2024

Project Summary:

  • The project is to reconfigure the taxiways and runways on the southside of Miami Executive Airport (TMB).
  • The scope of work includes the modification of Runway 31, shortening Runway 31 by approx. 200 feet, modification to the intersection between Runway 31 and Taxiways E and H, relocation of the E3 connector, 300 feet to the East, a new perpendicular connector for the relocated Runway 31 threshold, the extension of D2 connector to intersect Taxiway E and H and the extension of Taxiway H to the Runway 9R threshold.

Project Benefits:

  • Improve Aircraft traffic
  • Mitigate current flight pattern conflicts between Runway 9R-27L and Runway 13-31
  • The project is required to comply with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandate of reducing runway incursions through the Runway Incursion Mitigation (RIM) Program. The FAA is discouraging entrances that provide direct access to runways to reduce the risk of collision. This hot spot, HS 1, was identified by the FAA in July 2015 for mitigation. This project will improve the existing taxiway condition to conform to modern FAA design standards which mandate taxiway geometry to reduce the probability of runway incursions.
